FORTIETH ANNUAL REDBUD CANOE POKER RUN RACE TO BE HELD ON APRIL 21, 2024

The Forty-first Annual Honaker Redbud Festival Canoe Race will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. Registration begins at 12:00 p.m. The race will begin at the Blackford Canoe Access. Canoes and kayaks will end at the Puckett's Hole Canoe Access Area on the Clinch River. An entry fee of $10.00 per person will be required. No one under 18 years of age will be allowed to enter without parental consent and without an adult in the boat.   
       
This year's race is a Poker Run with a $100 prize for best hand and a $25 prize for the worst hand. The race will end at 5:00 p.m. If a boat has not reached the finish line by 5:00 p.m., a final card will be drawn for it and winners announced.          

Blackford canoe access is on Rt. 80 three miles south of Honaker and three miles north of Rosedale and US Route 19.

HONAKER REDBUD FESTIVAL PET SHOW
TO BE HELD ON APRIL 20, 2024

Come and bring "Man's best friend", and the rest of the "children" with paws, claws, beaks, feathers, hooves, fur and scales for the Redbud Festival Pet Show on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at New Peoples Bank in Honaker. It's a fun show with classes for Adults and Children to show off their beloved pets. There will be classes for every pet. Registration will start at 10:15 and fees will be $5.00 for the first pet and $2.00 for each additional pet per handler per class. We will have a fashion class (dress up in costumes to catch the judge's eye). Other classes are Relationship, Most Unusual Pet, Special Needs, Trick, Obstacle Course, Hound Dog, Expression, Pet Owner Look-a-Like, Obedience, and Face Only A Mother Could Love. The Judges' Favorite Award is for a pet that has caught the Judge's eye during the show. Trophies and ribbons will be given. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs to this event. Attendees are also required to maintain complete control of their pets for the safety and comfort of all Festival attendees.

A petting zoo will also be available for the kids.

Redbud Family Fun Day

 REDBUD FAMILY FUN DAY TO FEATURE NOAH SPENCER FROM THE "VOICE" 

      Children and adults of all ages join the Honaker Redbud Festival on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for games and entertainment on the grounds of New People's Bank. A number of games will be available. Festival goers are asked to bring their own chairs to the Saturday event. Come have fun.

      Free games this year feature a Corn Hole Tournament, a Laser Tag Course, adult and children Tricycle Races, Bouncy Houses and a Goldfish Pond for the kids. Kids ages 2-8 who catch a fish can take them home (while supplies last). In addition, a Kiddie Train, and carnival games will be available for a charge per ticket.

      Tricycle races will begin at 10:30 a.m. and participants can sign up for a time slot by texting (276) 730-4534 or by signing up in person that day. Participants must be at least 10 years of age. Challenge a friend, a business, a teacher or a policeman to a race!

For a fifth year, Fun Day will be having a jam session. It will be held at the Gazebo at New Peoples Bank. Local star, contestant on the "Voice", Noah Spencer will be featured. Local musicians are invited to bring their instruments and join in the jam . It will be an all day event. 

Bring your family and friends and lawn chairs for the fun, food, crafts, car show, and entertainment on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Committee folks will expect to see you there from 10:30 a.m. on into the early evening.

Vendor Information

The Thirty-Fifth Annual Redbud Festival Arts and Crafts Show will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the New People's Bank in Honaker. The event will be held outdoors on the Bank grounds. Bring your chairs to spend the day. If you enjoy crafts and unusual gift items with good food available, this is the place to be.          

        Non-food vendor and food vendor guidelines and a menu of set-up fees are available on the website. Early applications receive lower set-up fees, so send them in soon. Vendors should bring their own tents, table, chairs and cooking source, if needed. No electrical or water supplies are available. All food vendors will need a food permit obtained at the Russell County Health Department.

Car and Truck Show

REDBUD FESTIVAL CAR, PICKUP TRUCKS & BIG RIG SHOW TO BE HELD ON APRIL 20, 2024

     The thirty-fourth Annual Honaker Redbud Festival Car, Pickup Trucks and Big Rig Show will be Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the New Peoples Bank-Honaker (No trailers will be allowed). Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. Entries after 2:00 p.m. will receive a dash plaque, but will not be eligible for judging or trophies. Winners will be announced at 5:00 p.m. Participants are invited to join the parade after annoucement.

     All model cars,pick-up trucks, and big rigs will be accepted and judged (excluding trailers). Entry fees will be $20 on the day of the show.

Redbud Bird Walk

The Twentieth Annual Honaker Redbud Festival Bird and Wildflower Walk will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at Slate's Campground to register and begin the Walk. There is no charge for this event. Slate's Campground is located on Route 672 between Honaker and Blackford off State Route 80. The walk takes place on the old Blackford Spur railroad bed along the Clinch River, North America's most biodiverse river.

The Russell County Birding Association will once again lead the walk. Over the years walkers have sighted several raptors, including a juvenile Bald Eagle, Osprey, an American Kestral and a Red-tailed Hawk, as well as a Scarlet Tanager, Great Blue Heron, Wood Ducks, a Pileated Woodpecker, Pine Siskins and Yellow-throated Warblers. And wild orchids, columbine, jack-in-the- pulpit, blood root, and wild asters added more color to the morning splendor.

Bring your binoculars, cameras and bird and wildflower books and join the fun.

Redbud Breakfast

    The Bethany Baptist Church Relay for Life Team is sponsoring a Redbud Festival Breakfast on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Honaker High School Cafeteria. The fee for this All-You-Can-Eat buffet breakfast is $12.00 at the door. Children 5 years of age and under eat free.

        Get started on a full day of Redbud Festival fun with a big country breakfast, including biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, cooked apples and hash browns.

Redbud Beauty Pageant

Redbud Beauty Pageant

The Redbud Pageants return to the Redbud Festival events calendar on Saturday, April 6,2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Honaker High School Auditorium. Appalachian Leading Ladies is sponsoring the event in partnership with the Honaker Redbud Festival. Admission is $5.00 per person and doors will open at 12:00 noon.

There will be nine age divisions as follows:

Infant - 0-11 months
Baby - 12-23 months
Toddler - 2 years
Wee Miss - 3-4 years
Mini Miss - 5-6 years
Little Miss - 7-9 years
Young Miss - 10-12 years
Teen Miss - 13-16 years
Miss Redbud - 17-22 years
Entry fee is $40 per contestant. Contestants will model a gown of their choice in the Natural/Semi-Glitz style. Judges will only judge fit and style, not cost. They will also be judging facial beauty, poise and personality. The Miss Redbud winner must attend the Redbud events on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Additional awards of $5.00 will be made for Best Hair, Best Smile, Best Personality and Prettiest Dress in each division. An additional award will be made for Most Photogenic in each division. Contestants may enter photos (no limit) at a cost of $10.00 and photos should be framed and have name and age of the contestant on the back .

A Sponsorship Queen will go to the contestant raises the most money from donations or business sponsorships.Deadline to enter is March 30, 2024.
